The Anoka County sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help as it continues to investigate how a woman wound up dead and a man seriously injured at a Coon Rapids apartment building last week.

Police responded to 9280 N.W. University Ave. about 1:45 a.m. Thursday and found Lucas Anthony Jablonski, 24, injured on the front stoop, according to sheriff’s office officials. When they went inside, officers found Rebecca Lee Drewlo, 34, dead upstairs.

Drewlo lived in the building. Jablonski has no known address.

Later that afternoon, a wood-handled kitchen knife could be seen on the porch of the apartment, next to a pool of blood.

Jablonski was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, where he is listed in critical condition.

Sheriff’s office officials have not called Drewlo’s death a homicide, saying the investigation is still in its early stages. They declined to release further details Tuesday in order “to protect the integrity of the case.”

They did confirm that Drewlo and Jablonski had been involved in a relationship previously and that authorities believed the incident was “limited in scope to (the) two parties.”

Jablonski was sentenced in February to one year in the Anoka County Jail for violating a no-contact order within 10 years of a domestic violence conviction and obstructing the legal process. He was ordered to serve only 30 days of the sentence, though. The rest of the time was stayed.

Jablonski’s other convictions include misdemeanor-level harassment in 2015, misdemeanor level-theft in 2014, felony-level theft of a car in 2012 and first-degree aggravated robbery in 2008.

Anyone with information about Drewlo’s or Jablonski’s whereabouts or activities in the days leading up to the Aug. 17 incident is asked to call the Anoka County sheriff’s office at 763-427-1212.
