A St. Paul man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for repeatedly stabbing his sister in the face, neck and chest at their mother’s home last fall.

Pierre Davonne Ramsey received the sentence Wednesday, about two months after a Ramsey County District Court jury convicted the 26-year-old of one count of attempted second-degree murder as well as a second-count of first-degree assault, court records say.

Ramsey’s sister was at their mother’s house in the 2100 block of Glenridge Avenue in St. Paul about 2:40 a.m. last Oct. 2 to pick up her daughters after work, according to a criminal complaint. When she was there, the mother reminded her that she had food inside the house.

Shortly after she ran inside to get the food, one of her daughters looked up and saw Ramsey attacking his sister on the front steps, investigators said. He used a knife in the attack.

Police arrived to find blood pooled on the living room floor and the sister seated nearby with a towel pressed to her throat.

She was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she was treated for stab wounds to her neck, face, chest and left hand, charges say. One of the cuts to her face was 5 centimeters deep.

The injuries required surgery to her trachea, esophagus and left thumb, as well as cosmetic surgery.

Ramsey declined to make a statement to investigators after his arrest.

He has a lengthy criminal history, including past convictions for possessing a pistol without a permit, fifth-degree drug possession and six convictions for domestic assault.

His attorney, public defender Christian Rudd, did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday about his sentence.
