The sentence was delivered after Franchize Baby McWright, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor-level false reporting of police misconduct.

McWright previously faced four counts of falsely reporting police misconduct stemming from the April 2016 incident but three were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

In addition to the gun accusation, McWright alleged that a St. Paul police officer also stole his phone and illegally searched it and his car during a traffic stop, according to the criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County.

Police determined via squad car video of the incident that the stop — which was initiated because of a large crack in McWright’s windshield — hadn’t gone as McWright reported, the complaint said.

McWright was sentenced to 90 days in jail but ordered to serve only one. The rest of his sentence was stayed provided McWright abides by the terms of his probation.
