Phillip Leron Miller is believed responsible for the death of Philip Charles Borer Nelson, according to the Anoka County sheriff’s office.

The 41-year-old Brooklyn Park man remained at large and was described by authorities Friday evening as likely “armed and dangerous.”

Columbia Heights police found Nelson dead inside an apartment in the 1000 block of 41st Northeast about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The sheriff’s office has not disclosed how Nelson died, other than to say he “died violently.”

Occupants of the apartment fled before police arrived, but building surveillance captured images of Miller at the scene, the sheriff’s office reported.

Miller is described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build, brown eyes and black, loosely braided hair. He has tattoos on his arm and hand.

Police searched his Brooklyn Park address but he was not there.

Authorities are asking anyone who sees someone matching Miller’s description or has information about his whereabouts to call 911.

Miller has a “significant criminal history and should be considered armed and dangerous,” the sheriff’s office reported, so the public is advised not to approach him directly.

The Pioneer Press could not reach relatives of Nelson and Miller for comment.
