A St. Paul man is accused of raping a woman he met while out at an Uptown Minneapolis bar this past fall.
Sam John Prpich, 25, was charged Monday with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and a second count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to the criminal complaint filed against him in Ramsey County District Court.
Mutual friends introduced Prpich and the 21-year-old woman while the two were at the bar on Nov. 13, 2016.
They eventually left together in a cab and went to Prpich’s place on the 1100 block of Gibbs Avenue, according to the complaint. While the two were having consensual sex, Prpich repeatedly asked the woman if she was open to anal sex, according to the complaint. After she turned him down, he pinned her to the bed and raped her, the complaint said.
The woman was injured during the assault, which she later reported while at a hospital.
The woman got away by pushing Prpich off her, and then called a friend to pick her up, according to the complaint.
Before she left, Prpich cried and told her, “I ruined your life and I ruined my life,” the complaint said.
During an interview with police, Prpich said the assault was an “accident” and that he apologized to the woman several times and felt badly for upsetting her. He said it was dark in his room at the time and that he accidentally penetrated her in “the wrong hole.”
Prpich’s first appearance on the charges is scheduled for March 10.
He could not be reached for comment Monday. He appears to have yet to retain an attorney.
