The city of St. Paul wants residents to answer the question: What do you want to see along the riverfront in downtown?
As the city continues its quest to create a “river balcony” between the Union Depot and the Science Museum of Minnesota, it’s asking members of the public to come to the table with ideas.
The best ones will win a little money to turn the concept into a prototype to be presented at the city’s first Prototyping Festival in September, according to an announcement from the city.
St. Paul is hoping to transform the 1.5-mile stretch between the depot and the museum into a “public promenade” linking key development sites with restaurants, offices, shops and open spaces — all while accommodating walking, outdoor seating, gathering and other public activities, the announcement said.
People and organizations may submit their ideas until April 1.
The Knight Foundation is providing $25,000 to be shared among the contributors with the best ideas to develop their concepts into installations that will be on display during the fall festival.
The Prototyping Festival is hosted by the city, St. Paul Riverfront Corp., Public Art St. Paul and the CapitolRiver Council.
A special session to learn more is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. March 10 at Public Kitchen & Bar, 229 E. Sixth St. For more information about the competition, go to bit.ly/1Lz2rV4.
Winning ideas will be announced in mid-April.
