A St. Paul man accused of stealing money from two Domino’s Pizza employees as they attempted to make deposits has pleaded guilty to the crime.

Demonte Cortez Johnson, 20, entered the plea during a hearing Tuesday in Ramsey County District Court.
Johnson was charged in October with three counts of simple robbery for incidents that occurred in August and September. He had worked at the pizza chain and was identified as a potential suspect by a Domino’s security employee, according to the criminal complaint filed.
Johnson took $2,241 from a Domino’s employee attempting to deposit money at a bank in Little Canada at 2 a.m. Aug. 31.
He stole $487 from an assistant manager in the Snelling Avenue South restaurant’s parking lot at 3 a.m. Sept. 12, and attempted to rob an employee at the Grand Avenue Domino’s a week later, but the latter employee wasn’t depositing money at the time.
Johnson used a stun gun during that attempt and ended up fleeing with the employee’s backpack.
He later told police he was broke and needed the money for his son’s diapers and for gas.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 26.
